Abstract

This article examines the translation and the commentary on Aristotle’s On Interpretation, by Boecio, with the purpose of discussing a recently introduced thesis which claims that Boecios’ work as commentator of the Aristotelian logical corpus would amount only to a mechanic translation of glosses. In this respect, we maintain that, (1) an analysis of Boecio’s work as a translator signals him as the true author of the commentaries and (2) that, considering the context of the Middle Ages commentaries, it is not fit to seek originality in a case like this, but the capacity to assimilate and evaluate the discussions and notes available, which can be certainly said of Boecio
